What the DISTRIBUTOR does
The distributor, or control valve, is the drifter's timing element. It switches hydraulic flow from one side of the percussion piston to the other, setting stroke length and blow frequency. Its clearances are tight, and it depends entirely on clean oil.

- Drifter that will not start percussion, or will not stop it
- Impact energy that varies with oil temperature
- Scoring or varnish on the spool and bore
Before you fit it
A failed distributor is usually a symptom of contamination, not of age. Change the filters and sample the oil at the same time, or the replacement will pick up the same debris that killed the original.
