What the PULL ROPE does
Tie rods, side bolts and tension members hold major assemblies clamped together against the separating force of every percussion blow. They are tension components, sized to stretch elastically and hold that stretch.
Signs it needs replacing
- Rods found loose or requiring repeated retightening
- Permanent stretch, necking or thread damage
- Fretting between the clamped faces
- Leakage at a joint the rods are meant to clamp
Before you fit it
Replace stretched rods; they will not hold tension again. Tighten in the specified sequence and to the specified torque — uneven tension distorts the bores inside the assembly and causes wear that looks like something else entirely.
