What the HYD MOTOR does
The hydraulic motor drives rotation of the drill string. It has to deliver useful torque at low speed in hard rock and to tolerate the reactive shock that comes back up the string every time the bit bites unevenly.

- Rotation speed or torque below normal at correct pressure and flow
- Shaft seal leaking at the motor's drive end
- Case drain flow above the machine's stated limit — the standard sign of internal wear
- Rotation that only weakens once the oil is hot

Measure case drain flow before condemning a motor; it separates a worn motor from a supply problem upstream. Flush the circuit if the motor failed with debris, or the new unit will ingest it.
