What the HOSE DRUM does
Hoses and lines carry hydraulic flow between the pump, the valves and the drifter. On a percussion circuit they also carry the pressure pulses the accumulator does not absorb, which is why hose life on a rock drill is shorter than on almost any other hydraulic machine.
Signs it needs replacing
- Cover cracking, chafing or blistering, or exposed reinforcement
- Weeping or spray at the fitting crimp
- Hose visibly whipping during percussion
- Swelling or ballooning under pressure
Before you fit it
Route hoses so they cannot chafe and keep the bend radius above the minimum — the great majority of hose failures are routing and abrasion, not burst pressure. If hoses are failing repeatedly, check the accumulator charge before blaming the hoses.
