What the FLUSHING HEAD does
The flushing assembly delivers water or air through the shank adapter and down the drill string to clear cuttings from the hole. It has to inject that flow into a component that is simultaneously rotating and being struck, so it depends on a seal package working against constant movement and abrasive return.
Signs it needs replacing
- Flushing water leaking from the front of the drifter rather than reaching the hole
- Loss of flushing pressure and cuttings packing in the hole
- Water in the hydraulic oil, or oil in the flushing water
- Rapid re-drilling or bit binding caused by poor hole cleaning
Before you fit it
Poor flushing costs more than the part: cuttings left in the hole grind the drill string and slow penetration. Replace the flushing head seals as a set and check the shank adapter's flushing bore for erosion while the assembly is apart.
