What the DOME NUT does
Fasteners hold a machine together against continuous impact and vibration. On a percussion drill they are loaded components in their own right: bolts and studs are stretched to a specified tension, and it is that tension, not the thread, that keeps a joint together.

Replace stretched fasteners rather than retightening them, and always torque to specification in the specified sequence. A joint on a percussion machine that is not clamped to the correct tension will work loose no matter how tight it feels.
