What the DIAPHRAGM does
The diaphragm is the flexible barrier inside an accumulator that separates the charge gas from the hydraulic oil. It flexes on every percussion cycle, which makes it a fatigue component with a finite life regardless of how clean the oil is.
Signs it needs replacing
- Accumulator will not hold its gas charge
- Gas appearing in the hydraulic oil, or foaming in the tank
- Percussion pressure pulsing that returns shortly after a recharge
- Loss of impact energy that recharging no longer fixes
Before you fit it
Discharge the accumulator fully before opening it. Fit the diaphragm with the sealing faces clean and undamaged, then recharge with nitrogen to the specified pressure — never with air or oxygen.
