What the CYLINDER does
Cylinders provide the linear force in the drifter and its feed system, holding the bit against the rock at the thrust the ground calls for. Feed force is what keeps percussion energy going into the rock rather than back into the machine, so a weak cylinder shows up as a drilling problem, not just a hydraulic one.

- Drift or creep under load — the rod will not hold position
- Slow or uneven extension
- Oil weeping past the rod seal or the gland
- Scoring, pitting or plating damage on the rod

Inspect the rod surface before fitting a seal kit. A scored or corroded rod cuts new seals immediately, which is why a rebuilt cylinder often leaks again within days — the seal was replaced but the surface that destroyed it was not.
