What the ACCUMULATOR does

The accumulator smooths the pressure pulses the percussion mechanism generates. Each stroke sends a shock wave back into the supply line; the accumulator absorbs it and returns the energy on the next cycle. Without a functioning accumulator those pulses travel into the hoses, pump and valves instead.

Signs it needs replacing

• Hoses visibly jumping or hammering during percussion
• Reduced impact energy and slower penetration
• Short hose and fitting life throughout the hydraulic circuit
• Loss of charge pressure between shifts

Before you fit it

Check the gas charge at the interval the machine manual gives — a discharged accumulator is a common cause of premature hose and pump failure on a percussion circuit. Replace the diaphragm whenever the accumulator is opened.
